Maharaja Agrasen College today voted in favor of having a college union and in favor of affiliation to Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) in two referendums here.

A total of 1355 students voted in the referendums.

For the referendum on having a college union, 1190 students voted in favor and 99 students voted against it.

"The students have voted with a majority in favor of having unions. The college will have a student union as 87 per cent students have voted in favor," President DUSU Satender Awana, who was an observer for the referendums, said.

For the referendum on having affiliation with DUSU, 935 students voted in favor while 310 students voted against it and 110 votes were invalid.

However, it wasn't immediately clear if the college will be a part of DUSU as according to rules there should be 75 per cent voting in favor of the motion but the college only polled 69 per cent in favor of being part of the student's union.

But Awana maintained that the college will be part of DUSU as majority of students have voted in favor.

Principal Sonil Sondhi was not available for a comment.
