Man arrested for beating wife to death

A 45-year-old man was arrested today for allegedly beating his wife to death in their house in Aiyyankolli, about 80 kms from here.

Gopalan, a labourer belonging to a tribal community, reportedly used to pick up quarrel with his wife Valli (35) daily under the influence of alcohol, M Balasubramanian, Inspector of Police said.

Gopalan, who had quarrelled with Valli last night, hit her with a wooden log this morning following which she suffered grievous injuries on her head and abdomen.

She died on the spot, the police official said, adding, the accused was arrested.
