A man was killed and two others were injured when they received an electric shock while repairing a faulty transformer in the Banihal area of the district today, a police officer said.

"A casual labourer working with the Power Development Department Mushtaq Ahmad Gujjar was electrocuted in Senabati area of in Ramban district and two others were injured when they were repairing a faulty transformer in the area," he said.

He said soon after the incident residents of the area took to streets and held protest against the officials of the PDD for allowing the casual laborer to work on the faulty lines.

"The casual laborers are not trained to handle this type of works, but it was the job of the lineman and the Junior engineer (JE) to do the repair work. Had they performed their duty, a precious life would have been saved", a local resident said.

Police has registered a case and started investigations into the incident.
