A man has been sentenced to seven years in jail by a Delhi court which ruled that he had negligently killed his wife as he was annoyed with her for her drinking habit and for keeping late hours.
Additional Sessions Judge JR Aryan handed down the jail term to convict Sadhu Ram saying that he had committed the offence after an altercation with his wife, Rajo.
"It is a matter of record that 43 injuries were noticed on the person of the victim during post mortem and only one injury... Was found to have been fatal. Most of the other injuries were abrasions and bruises.

"Viscera of deceased revealed content of alcohol and these circumstances suggest some kind of altercation between the accused and the deceased, finally leading to him committing the offence," the court said.
The convict, who was facing trial for killing his wife, was spared the jail term prescribed for murder as the court held that there was no evidence to convict him under Section 302 (murder) of IPC.
It, however, convicted Sadhu under section 304, Part-I (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
"These circumstances suggest that injuries were caused intentionally... (the fact) that he was likely to have caused the death is reasonably inferable and, thereby, offence of the accused comes under Section 304, Part-I.
"Accused is, accordingly, liable to be convicted for the offence of culpable homicide punishable under Section 304 Part-I," it said.
Sadhu had surrendered at Harsh Vihar police station on June 24, 2011, and told cops that he had killed his wife as she was of bad character and a habitual drinker.
