Man held with imported cigarettes worth Rs 6 lakhs

A man was today held at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here for allegedly smuggling in over 500 packets of foreign cigarettes worth Rs 6 lakhs.

The incident occurred at about 3:00 AM when on-duty CISF personnel noticed the 'suspicious' activities of the passenger, identified as Manoj K. He was coming from Bangkok, officials said.

He was later seen crossing the green channel with another person even as the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) men followed him, they said.

The passenger was intercepted in the arrival area and four bags containing 520 packets of a cigarette brand called 'Esse' were recovered from him.
 

The estimated price of the consignment is Rs 6 lakhs, the officials said, adding the flyer was handed over to customs authorities.
