A local court today sentenced a man to nine years imprisonment for sexually abusing his neighbour, a 23-year-old mute and mentally challenged woman at Srivanjiam near Nannilam in this district in 2010.
The prosecution case was that Vinodh (25) had sexually abused his neighbour on October 28, 2010, when she was taking bath.
On a complaint, a case was registered and he was arrested.
Mahila court judge Anburaj convicted Vinodh and sentenced him to nine years imprisonment and was also slapped a fine of Rs 11,000 on him.
Vinodh was later taken to central prison at Tiruchirapalli.
