Calling for punishment for those 'tampering with the spirit' of Rabindranath Tagore songs, eminent lyricist, singer and music critic Suparno Kanti Ghosh has said the Visva Bharati's fetters on the Bard's music should not have gone in the first place.

Ghosh, who hailed the Antawrotaro album by upcoming singer Rajeeb Chattopadhyay said, "Excepting few initiatives like the one by Rajeev, most others by band artistes or other contemporary Bengali lyric singers are nothing but sacrilegious killing the purity of Rabndrasangeet."

"The trend had become more pronounced from his 150th year birth anniversary when just anybody started trying their own brand of Rabindrasangeet and this only led to mutilation of the ethos of the songs, There should not be any variation. Just no variation," the veteran singing figure said.

Interspersed with recitations and songs, the 12-track Antarataro talks about self-surrender and never deviates from the 'swarolipi', Ghosh said.

"If there is true regulation only such songs will be allowed. The Rest need to be dumped in river. And I mean it," Ghosh said.

"We are really proud to release and distribute Rajeeb's Puja Album 'Antawrotaro'. We equally feel honoured to have veteran Music Composer and Lyricist Abhijit Bandopadhyay as mentor to regulate We don't wander from the golden path of Rabindrasangeet as it is," Purnendu Roy of Orion Entertainment said.
