Veteran actor Mark Hamill has come out in support of his "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" co-star Kelly Marie Tran after she was trolled on social media by the hardcore franchise fans.

Tran, 29, recently deleted all of her Instagram posts after the online abuse. She has left a black and white profile photo and her bio read, "Afraid, but doing it anyway."

The actor is the first Asian to feature in the franchise and was constantly trolled on social media for her performance in the Rian Johnson-directed "The Last Jedi".

Hamill, 66, took to Twitter and shared a picture of his with Tran.

"What's not to love?#GetALifeNerds" he wrote.

Johnson had also slammed the "manbabies" and the franchise fans for their abusive behaviour on social media.

"On social media a few unhealthy people can cast a big shadow on the wall, but over the past 4 years I've met lots of real fellow SW fans. We like and dislike stuff but we do it with humour, love and respect. We're the vast majority, we're having fun & doing just fine," he wrote on Twitter.

Tran's co-star Daisy Ridley was also subjected to online abuse after she debuted in "Force Awakens". Ridley was criticised for her looks and stance on gun control which led her to delete her Instagram account in 2016.
