An alleged mastermind of an extortion racket, which used to dupe people of money to the tune of lakhs of rupees after honey trapping them, has been arrested from Mangolpuri area, police said today.
28-year-old Jitender Kathura, the main accused of a gang which included two police constables, extorted money after honey trapping their victims and then raiding the premises as police officers.
"Jitender Kathura, along with his gang posed as Crime Branch officials, threatened their targets after they were found in a compromising position with the girls employed by the gang. They were then threatened of being framed in a rape case.

"Once the victims were pressurized, the gang demanded huge money for not taking any legal action against them," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.
The official said one of their victims had lodged a case of extortion against them with Rani Bagh Police Station in August this year following which team of Crime Branch was looking into the matter and eight persons, including two Delhi Police constables, were arrested in this case.
The police apprehended the kingpin of the racket on Wednesday after a tip-off about him.
The other arrested members of the gang include Manoj, Pawan, Neeraj, Vijay, Sunny and two women, police said. Manoj was a beat constable of Delhi Police posted at Mangol Puri police station while Pawan was a constable posted with the Crime Branch.
The charge sheet against remaining accused persons has already been filed in a court and the case is now pending trial, police said.
