Max temps stay below normal in Punjab, Haryana

Maximum temperatures today hovered below the normal in most parts of Punjab and Haryana with rains lashing a few places in both the states.

Chandigarh recorded a maximum of 36.8 degrees Celsius, one degree below the normal, a MeT department report said.

Ambala in Haryana recorded a maximum of 35.2 degrees Celsius, three degrees below the normal, while Hisar and Karnal had maximums of 39 degrees Celsius and 34.4 degrees Celsius respectively, four notches below the normal, the report said.

Narnaul's maximum was 35.3 degrees Celsius, six notches below the normal, it said, adding Karnal received rainfall of 2.4 mm.
 

In Punjab, Amritsar's maximum temperature was 34.1 degrees Celsius, five degrees below the normal.

Ludhiana and Patiala recorded identical temperatures of 36.3 degrees Celsius, three notches below the normal. Ludhiana recorded 0.6 mm of rainfall.

The MeT department has predicted light rain or thundershowers at isolated places in Haryana and Punjab in next the 48 hours.
