Punjab Government has increased the ambit of Bhai Kanahiya Scheme and extended medical insurance cover of Rs 1.50 lakh for the people.
Earlier, medical insurance cover was provided only to members of cooperative societies, but has now been extended to every person of the state, state health minister Madan Mohan Mittal said.
The Minister, who was quoted by an official release here, further said under the National Health Insurance Scheme, the state government has also decided to provide medical insurance of Rs 30,000 to the state's 5.23 lakh BPL families.
For the 10 lakh families covered under Atta-Dal Scheme, a new medical insurance scheme will be started soon, he said.
Under this proposed medical scheme, the premium of Rs 400 per family, will be paid by the state government, Mittal said.
"Punjab Government has earmarked a budget of Rs 20 crore for these new schemes," the Minister added.
