Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma today launched the Quami Ekta Week by leading a gathering in taking pledge for national integration at the main Secretariat Building here.
Addressing the gathering before administering the pledge, the Chief Minister recalled Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi, whose birth anniversary is observed as National Integration Day or Quami Ekta Divas, and said the strength of the country lies in the diversity of community, religion and language of our people.
He lamented that some forces threaten the unity and integrity of the nation at times and called upon the people to stand up against such forces.

Sangma urged upon all government officials in different capacities to discharge their duties and responsibilities without discrimination and serve the people selflessly.
State Home Minister, Roshan Warjri also joined the officials and employees of various government departments in taking the pledge.
Earlier, Chief Secretary P B O Warjri in his address said the entire week would be observed as communal harmony and national integration week.
