Meghalaya CM mourns death of Jayalalithaa

Mourning the demise of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma today said the AIADMK supremo had "pioneered poverty alleviation initiatives."

The state government announced a three-day mourning with effect from today where there will be no official entertainment during the period.

"She will always be remembered for the numerous poverty alleviation initiatives pioneered by her to provide a better and more meaningful life to the people especially the less fortunate," Sangma told PTI.

"Many such initiatives have been replicated by governments both in the Centre and other states," he said.

Conveying condolences to members of her bereaved family, the Chief Minister said, "I'm deeply saddened at the demise of honourable Jayalalithaaji. Her death leaves a deep void in not only her state but in the nation as well.
