MHA asks WB, Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim to be prepared for rains

The Union Home Ministry today asked West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya and Sikkim to take all possible steps for safety of people in the wake of forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall in some places in these states in the next two days.

The Home Ministry has advised the state governments to keep a close watch, monitor the situation in their areas regularly and take appropriate precautionary measures, an official spokesperson said.

The advisory came on the basis of today's reports from Indian Meteorological Department which said there is weather forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rain falls at isolated places in Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim and sub-Himalayan West Bengal during the next two days.
 

The weather forecast came days after Jammu and Kashmir faced heavy rainfall leading to the flooding of the state which has so far claimed 277 lives.
