The Centre has proposed to make Mizoram a bamboo state, Union Minister for Development of North East Region (DoNER) Jitendra Singh today said.
There were a number of steps proposed for commercial utilisation of the rich bamboo potential of the state, he told media persons at Lengpui airport.
He said DoNER ministry would take steps to improve the health sector in Mizoram which had an extremely high incidence of cancer.

Physicians and surgeons from the state would undergo special training on cancer at Adyar Cancer Institute in Chennai from January.
Referring to the education sector, he said emphasis would be given to improve higher education in Mizoram, which though a young state has one of the highest literacy rates in the country.
