A mob targetted the residential compound of a godly man late last night in which four-wheelers and other property worth over rupees three lakh were damaged by the locals at Wangkhei Hijam Leirak area here, the police said.
The attack on the compound of the revered man, Hijam Ratan (47), occurred as a result of an alleged accumulation of wealth mostly by his followers in the name of religion, the police said.
The man is considered as "Panthou", a saintly man with spiritual powers, by the locals.
Large number of police personnel led by Additional SP of Imphal East is guarding the complex.
