Movement Plan for the proposed repatriation of Brus from six relief camps in Tripura will soon be prepared and submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) by the end of the month, Mizoram Additional Secretary for Home Lalbiakzama today said.

Lalbiakzama told PTI that district level core committees for Bru repatriation and the sub-committees for security, medical and supplies under the State Level Core Committee for Bru Repatriation would chalk out the modalities for the repatriation road map, which would soon be placed before the Core Committee soon.

He said the final calendar for the proposed repatriation would be chalked out after the MHA approves the road map.

The MHA had earlier asked the Mizoram government to submit a road map for the proposed Bru repatriation by May 31.

It might be recalled that the attempt to repatriate thousands of Brus from relief camps in North Tripura during June to September last year came to nought as no Bru came forward to be identified as bonafide residents of Mizoram.

Brus migrated en masse to Tripura from Mizoram during the later part of 1997 after Bru militants gunned down Lalzawmliana, a game watcher near Persang hamlet inside the Dampa Tiger Reserve on October 21, 1997.

The second wave of exodus occurred in 2009 after Bru militants again killed a boy near Tripura border Bungthuam village on November 13, three days before the first proposed repatriation was scheduled to commence.
