MP gets national award for protecting senior citizens

Madhya Pradesh has bagged the national award for protecting interests of senior citizens and ensuring their welfare.

Madhya Pradesh Commissioner Social Justice V K Batham will receive the award from President Pranab Mukherjee at a function at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on International Senior Citizens Day today, officials said.

The award is being conferred by Union Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry under Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.

Welfare programmes for senior citizens have been implemented in a better way in Madhya Pradesh and it is regarded as one of the best states where various facilities and services have been provided to senior citizens.
 

For effective implementation of Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, Maintenance Agencies have been constituted in 352 development blocks of 50 districts in Madhya Pradesh along with 50 Appellate authorities.
