The Madhya Pradesh High Court has stayed the election of the Chairman of State Wakf Board.
A Bench comprising Chief Justice Manikrao Khanwilkar and Justice KK Lahoti yesterday stayed the election on a petition filed by Mehmood Khan, from Bhopal.
The petitioner had contended that the new chief of the Board must be elected as per the rules prescribed under the amended Wakf Board Act, 2013.

Mehmood said there were plans to hold the election by forming a five-member committee, but such a step would have been inappropriate under the amended law. The election date was not yet announced.
The Board, which manages Muslim charitable trust properties, is headed by Chairman and has up to 13 members. The court fixed January 13 for next hearing on the petition.
