MP:Rs 20-cr property unearthed in Lokayukta raid on ex-Patwari

Unaccounted properties worth Rs 20 crore were unearthed after Lokayukta police conducted raids in three premises belonging to a retired Patwari (Revenue Inspector) in Madhya Pradesh.

The raids were conducted yesterday simultaneously at three places in Gwalior and Datia of the former Patwari Rakesh Gupta following which Rs 1.5 lakh cash and documents of properties worth Rs 20 lakh were recovered, Lokayukta's Superintendent of Police (SP) Santosh Singh Gaur said today.

Gupta who took voluntary retirement last year had joined service in 1993. In his 20-year-long career, he amassed assets, the current market value of which is Rs 20 crore. His total income from the salary during the period should be around Rs 20 lakh only, the SP said.
 

He also owns a modern farmhouse spread in 18 acre area in Datia district whose present value is about Rs 16 crore. The farmhouse has a big pond breeding fishes, besides birds, animals, dairy and rose flower farm.

He also owns a big house having eight rooms and a hall in the farmhouse.

Forest officials were also tipped-off about the presence of foreign breed of birds and animals.

Gaur said a case has been registered in this regard and further investigations were on.
