MP to provide Rs 500 monthly assistance to distressed women

The Madhya Pradesh government plans to provide an assistance of Rs 500 per month to distressed women under the Chief Minister's Women's Empowerment Scheme, a senior state minister said today.

MP's Women and Child Development Minister Maya Singh said the scheme was aimed at providing assistance of Rs 500 to distressed women including those saved from human trafficking, released from jail, and rape or acid attack victims.

Also eligible for the benefits would be divorced women, women facing dowry harassment, child marriage victims, women living in government and non-government institutions and those living below the poverty line, she said.

The minister further said that women serving jail terms would also be imparted skills to enable them to lead an honourable life after their prison term.
 

Earlier, the scheme used to train distressed women in a government institution but now they can be trained in a private institute with the department's permission, she said.

Under the scheme, advertisements to aware eligible women to enrol for the scheme were issued once a year earlier, but now it will be issued every three months, she said.
