Nagaland today observed World Toilet Day throughout the State.
The programme was organised by Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) under the initiative of Water and Sanitation Support Organisation (WSSO) with the main function being held at PHED Directorate conference hall here.
Addressing the function, WSSO Director K G Sumi stressed on the importance of cleaning the toilets, surrounding, schools, Angwadi centres, use of soap before meal, after defecation, safe disposal of child excreta.

He also focused on the need of totally doing away with the bad practice of open defecation and keeping villages clean with proper solid and liquid waste management.
He also urged the PHED staff to be the ambassador for educating the rural areas for complete sanitation before 2019.
Sumi also said that about 2.5 billion people in the world do not have access to basic sanitation, including toilets or latrines.
The district divisions of PHED also conducted social work cleaning the office toilets and surrounding.
