Narayana Health today initiated work of its 200-bedded hospital, which would eventually be turned into a 1000-bedded multi-speciality facility.

Foundation stone for the hospital was laid on September 30, 2012 by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in the presence of Dr Devi Shetty, chairman, Narayana Health.

"Our teams have been working hard to get necessary approvals to build the hospital and the state government has been a constant support. We are happy that construction has started," said Deepak Venugopalan, Zonal Director(East), Narayana Health.

"The hospital will mark the state government's committed efforts towards provisioning state-of-the-art tertiary care facilities to meet the growing demand for quality and affordable healthcare," said P K Mahapatra, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare.

The new facility is being constructed on the site of Dumduma Housing Board, Dumduma Phase 1. Based on the success of the group's first low cost model hospital in Mysore, the hospital at Bhubaneswar will ensure quality in energy and environmental designing standards.

The first phase of the project costing Rs 50 crore will have 200 beds across one lakh square feet of built area which will be functional by March 2015.
