Nearly three lakh cases were disposed of by around 500 courts, tribunals and other forums on a single day today as part of the Second National Lok Adalat held across the country.
During the first National Lok Adalat in November last year, 2,16,333 cases were disposed of.
Sources at Odisha Legal Aid Services Authority here informed that at least 13 courts in High Court, 30 district courts, 74 sub-divisional courts, 11 tribunals and fora and many other magisterial courts participated in the Lok Adalt with an aim to reduce the pendency of cases at various levels of courts.
At least five lakh cases of various types were identified to be taken up on the day and to draw the attention of the public towards Lok Adalat as an effective alternative dispute resolution method.
Similarly, cases pertaining to revenue, land acquisition, consumer, service and labour matters were also taken up the special sittings of the judges and magistrates.
At least 1191 cases pertaining to MACT, land acquisition, criminal revision, bank matters and service matters were listed to be disposed of.
