National Rugby championship begins

The three-day national level Rugby championship, the first in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, began at Bakshi Stadium here today.

The senior National Rugby 7's championship, which will see the participation of 20 teams, was inaugurated by the state Governor N N Vohra.

Vohra expressed hope that Rugby would become popular in the state with the organisation of the championship.

He asked the J&K Rugby Association president Sarmad Hafeez to organise the Rugby matches in Leh and Kargil districts next year with a view to promote the sport in the region as well.

Vohra also witnessed the inaugural match of the championship which was played between the hosts and Uttar Pradesh.
