The North Delhi Municipal Corporation today added 10 new ultra-modern trucks to the garbage-collection fleet of vehicles, seeking to boost its cleanliness drive under the 'Swachh Bharat Mission'.

North Delhi Mayor Yogender Chandolia today flagged off the new fleet and said 10 more such trucks would be procured next week.

"The 10 new trucks, having a capacity of lifting 3.5 MT garbage are ultra-modern and in compliance with the new pollution control standards. These 20 trucks would together cost approximately Rs 3.78 crore," Municipal Commissioner Praveen Gupta said in a statement by the NDMC.

Chandolia said that besides, 10 more trucks would be procured for the horticulture department very soon so that the garbage from parks can be collected and disposed off efficiently.

NDMC's Standing Committee Chairman Mohan Bhardwaj said that the Corporation has decided to strengthen the civic body's sanitation department by adding these trucks with modern facilities.

"NDMC is committed to make the area cleaner and better and these new trucks would be very beneficial for that. In addition, stickers conveying message of maintaining cleanliness to citizens were also pasted on these trucks." he said.

Such stickers would be pasted on maximum vehicles to send the message of "keeping city clean" to the masses.
