With an aim to control the menace of stray cattle, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation has decided to seal dairies running illegally in its area, a top civic body official said today.
"Chairman Standing Committee in NDMC, Mohan Bhardwaj today directed the municipal officials to take strict action to check the menace of stray cattle...He also directed them to seal the dairies running illegally in its area," NDMC Public Relations Officer Yogendra Singh Mann said.
Taking serious note of the situation, Bhardwaj in a statement said, owners of such animals would also be "prosecuted" as per the law, adding The SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) shall also be informed of the offenders.
"The stray cattle which are marked by hot iron for putting identification marks would be identified and their owners will be also identified and prosecuted as per the law. Areas would be also identified where stray animals roam around the most so that their owners so that they can be taken to task," Bhardwaj said.
Bhardwaj warned dairy owners who have been provided with alternate plots at Ghogha for running their facilities, that their land allotments will be cancelled and they would have to forfeit the amount deposited for the dairy plot, if they were found running dairies from the city area.
A report in this regard be submitted weekly to him. Besides this, he would also be also furnished with details of the action taken for controlling the menace of the stray cattle, dogs and monkeys regularly, the NDMC said.
The Standing Committee Chairman also directed the officials to inspect the 'gousadans', where stray cows and their calves are sent for their upkeep.
They must inspect the number of cows, quantity of the fodder, its quality and arrangements for checking their health in the gousadans. Besides this, per day quantity of milk in case of milking cows and income from its sale be apprised to him, he said.
Bhardwaj further said that although it was the responsibility of the Delhi Government's Forest Department to catch the monkeys, but keeping in view the gravity of the problem, the municipal officials should identify the areas where the simian menace is more and engage experienced persons for the job of catching monkeys to address the problem.
Officials responsible for controlling the menace would be held responsible themselves if they fail to fulfill their duty, he added.
