The Punjab government has notified the minor mineral rules, which seek to streamline the process of supply of minor minerals in the state, with a thrust on adherence to environmental norms.
Under the rules, the environment approval of mines having area below five hectares shall be accorded by a district level committee headed by the concerned Deputy Commissioner, with the General Manager-cum-Mining Officer as its Member Secretary, an official spokesperson said here today.
He further said the committee, while approving the environment management plan of the quarries having area below five hectares, should also ensure that mining activities are undertaken as per the provisions made under rules.
The official said the rules seek to ensure availability of minerals like sand, gravel and bricks at nominal rates.
