NGOs urged to supplement govt efforts to grow more trees

Puducherry Local Administration Minister N.G.Panneerselvam today asked NGOs in the Union Territory to supplement the efforts of the government to grow more trees as the green cover lost during natural calamities should be regained without loss of time.

He was addressing members of the Pondicherry Civil Engineers Association here after launching the Association's 'Grow More Trees' programme in Moogambikai Nagar.

Growing more trees was important and it would be easy to reach the goal through sustained and joint initiatives, he said.

The role of the NGOs in this regard was also crucial and hence the efforts of the government to grow more trees should be supplemented by the voluntary organisations, he added.
