A Nigerian national, who allegedly used to befriend women posing as UK-based industrialist and dupe them of lakhs of rupees by luring them on pretext of marriage, has been arrested, police said today.

The accused, Henry Chima, was arrested yesterday from a residential accommodation in Arjun Nagar in south Delhi following a complaint by a woman who accused him of duping her of Rs 37,000 and putting pressure to shell out Rs 86,000 more, a senior police official said.

Chima came to India in April this year on a student visa. He used to register himself on popular marriage portals, befriend women, only to dupe them of "lakhs of rupees" through a unique modus operandi, police said.

The accused had befriend the victim on one such portal posing as a gynaecologist working with the World Health Organisation in London.

"He along with his associates used to befriend women posing as UK-based industrialists and then telling them expensive gifts are being send to them for which he used to ask for shipment charges by calling as a female executive using a voice changing software," a police officer said.

Once the victim deposited the money, he asked for more, the officer added.

In this case, the accused allegedly started threatening the victim of "disclosing" her morphed pictures on social network sites on non-payment of the demanded amount.

Police recovered two laptops, six mobiles, four SIM cards, two data cards, two passports (one purportedly fake) and unearthed two bank accounts from Chima.
