Officials today claimed that calm has returned to the areas adjoining the restive frontier in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba and Kathua districts.

"There has been no ceasefire violation along the International Border (IB) in Samba and Kathua districts since yesterday," a senior BSF officer said.

Kathua Deputy Commissioner Shahid Iqbal Choudhary also said, "There was no ceasefire violation since January 6 night along the IB in Kathua district."

Samba SSP Anil Magotra said, "Calm has returned to border."

Union Minister Jitendra Singh said, "Compared to what was being witnessed for the last three-four days, there is certainly some relief."

"But the morale of the people living near the border is very high. They are gratified by the kind of response that has been put up the Narendra Modi Government," he said.

Singh said the border people believe that the hostility from across the border was being given a befitting reply by the Indian forces.

"At the same time, we have also tried to provide all kind of relief and resettlement provisions," he added.
