A nurse was allegedly roughed up by relatives of a patient at AIIMS when she asked them to leave the emergency ward, police said today.

The incident came to light after the nurse from Arunachal Pradesh, Nending Yanyung Yung, lodged a police complaint.

According to the police, the incident took place yesterday night when the nurse, who was on night duty, asked the relatives of a patient, Sunil, to leave the emergency ward as per hospital rules.

"However, the relatives who had come to see the patient from Haryana, protested and got into a heated argument with the nurse. The nurse alleged that the patient's relatives abused her and two women among them even tried to strangulate her," said a police official.

When Nendin screamed, her colleagues rushed in and later informed the police.

According to rules, only one attendant is allowed with a patient in the hospital, but there were five persons with Sunil, they said.

Police is now looking for the accused who fled the spot.
