Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Monday inaugurated 35 Model Police stations in the state through video conferencing from the secretariat here.

Patnaik also interacted with people present in seven Model police stations.

"This (model PS) will inspire confidence among public and shall go a long way in making police not only smart but also people friendly," he said.

The chief minister also inaugurated Airport Model Police Station in the state capital which has been envisaged as sequel to opening of International Airport at Bhubaneswar and keeping in mind the issues related to increased flow of foreign tourists to Odisha.

Patnaik also flagged off 12 PCR mobiles meant for increased police mobility and patrolling in Bhubaneswar for the World Cup Hockey and thereafter, for prompt and better response to the people in need.

He too flagged off 35 new Boleros and 70 new motor cycles meant for 35 Model police stations. There are additional vehicles provided to the Model Police stations to improve mobility and efficiency.

Attending a function, DGP R P Sharma mentioned that the workload and challenges of police are increasing everyday along with rising expectation of enlightened public.

"Police should not only be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-bound) but also should be people friendly in a welfare state. They should be sensitive and treat people with empathy particularly vulnerable and weaker sections of the society," Sharma said.

The Model Police Stations will act as role-model for the other police stations in the district, Sharma said.
