Odisha reeling under intense heat wave

The heat wave sweeping across Odisha on Sunday intensified in the ten western districts with Titlagarh recording the state's highest temperature at 46.3 degree Celsius even as the coastal belt saw a marginal dip in the mercury.

The entire western region continued to boil under blistering temperature, while the heat wave also prevailed in parts of Odisha's hinterland.

Titlagarh recorded the highest temperature of 46.3 degree Celsius, and was followed by Sonepur at 45.8 degree Celsius, Jharsuguda at 45.5 and Sundargarh at 45 degree Celsius, the India Meteorological Department said in a statement.

The maximum temperature touched 44.6 degree Celsius in Hirakud, while it stood at 44.5 degree in both Bhawanipatna and Angul and 44 degree Celsius in Bolangir, it said.

The state capital of Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 41.2 degree Celsius as against 39.7 degree Celsius experienced yesterday, the MeT office said.

Meanwhile, 38 persons were suspected to have died of sunstroke even as the state government has denied any heat stroke related death in the state.
