Opposition AIADMK and DMK today urged Chief Minister N Rangasamy to intervene immediately and ensure that private medical colleges earmarked 50 per cent of the total seats in post graduate courses in the institutions for government quota as had been prescribed by Medical Council of India.

Alleging that the seats in PG course in the private institutions were being sold, AIADMK Deputy Legislature Party leader A Anbalagan said there was already a directive from the Medical Council of India issued in 2009 that 50 per cent quota in PG seats should be earmarked for the government to sponsor its candidates for the courses.

He sad the government was remaining a silent spectator in the matter.

A M H Nazeem (DMK) also alleged that the seats were being sold by the managements without adhering to the MCI directive.

Chief Minister told the members that there were as many as 251 seats in PG courses and 29 seats in the PG Diploma stream. There was a directive from the MCI that 50 per cent of the PG seats should be earmarked under government quota. No seat had been procured under government quota so far, he added. He said that steps would be taken to allay the grievances of the members.
