The orgainsers of the ninth Asia Cup hockey tournament were in for big embarrassment when they failed to play the national anthem of Chine Taipei ahead of its second Pool A encounter against Japan here today.

As per world body's (FIH) norm, it is mandatory to play the national anthem of every team before an international tie.

Soon after Japan's national anthem was played, Chinese Taipei players were waiting for their national anthem but to their dismay it never started, forcing the orgainsers to announce that the anthem cannot be played due to some technical glitches.

When asked Chinese Taipei coach Chung Teng Wei about the glitch, he said:"It was not the ideal start to our match. My boys were obviously little disappointed that something like this happened with us.

"But you can't blame the organisers as well because it was a technical fault. It was out of their control. But we hope this sort of thing is not repeated in the tournament.

Chines Taipei eventually succumbed to their second defeat in the tournament, losing 1-5to Japan.

In their tournament opener, Chinese Taipei were handed a 2-10 drubbing by hosts Malaysia yesterday.
