Ornaments, cash worth Rs 3.5 lakh looted from goldsmith

Five motorbike-borne youths looted ornaments and cash worth Rs 3.5 lakh from a goldsmith on the city's Link Road this evening when the latter was returning home after closing his shop in Govind Nagar area, police said.

The incident took place around 8.30 PM when Jitendra Verma was riding his motorbike back home barely a few yards from his shop on the Link Road leading to Sri Krishna Janmsthan.

He was forced at gunpoint by the youths to stop his bike and hand over a bag containing ornaments worth Rs 3 lakh and Rs 50,000 in cash.

Police have swung into action to nab the culprit. "A hunt is on. We hope to nab the culprits soon," Mathura Senior Superintendent of Police Awhiles Kumar Merna said.
