A panther cub today made its way to the staff quarters of the University of Rajasthan campus here, triggering a scare among staff and students.

The eight-month-old cub had sneaked into university campus after crossing the adjoining Jhalana Forest and was spotted early this morning in the varsity campus leading to commotion in the area, foresters said.

As soon the word spread, forest officials including Virendra Sharma and Vijay Prakash along with veterinarian Dr Arvind Mathur reached the spot and the cub was tranquilized by the team and later released in the forest.

"The cub was frightened seeing a large number of people. Soon, after we came to know, rescue operation was started. We tranquilized the cub, gave her food and released in the forest again," ACF, Manphool Bishnoi told PTI.

In November last year, a two-year-old panther had strayed into a building at Milap Nagar.

Forest officials had then claimed that the panther might have strayed from Jhalana forest area.
