Officials of education department had to turn back without implementing a court order on closure of a century-old educational institution following public protest today at Malaparamba, near here, police said.
The officials led by the Assistant Educatonal Officer reached the Malaparamba Aided Upper Primary school this morning to close it down, Chevayur police said.
The public, members of Malaparamba School Protection Committee, laid siege to the school to protest against the closure order.

As the situation threatened to turn out to be violent, the officials went back without implementing the order, police said, adding, nothing untoward happened.
The management of the school wanted to demolish the school buildings as it became weak and it was 'uneconomical' still to run the school, they said.
The Kerala High Court had passed an order a few months ago, favouring the management and subsequently the DPI had issued an order for closure of the school last month, police added.
