Police custody for duo issuing fake univ marksheets

A local court today remanded a couple, who were recently arrested from Patna, for allegedly floating a fake website of city-based university, to six days police custody.

Sanjeev Kumar and his wife Pooja Srivastava were produced before the court here after they were brought to Shillong from Patna yesterday.

They were remanded to six days police custody, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP) M Kharkrang said.

The couple had been issuing fake marksheets by using the name of a university which is not yet functional.

They have been selling the fake marksheets to people hailing from Bihar, West Bengal, Delhi, Rajasthan and Jharkhand.
 

Their arrest came in the wake of a complaint lodged by Chancellor of Techno Global University, Shillong that miscreants have uploaded a fake website and are offering admissions and also issuing fake marksheets whereas the genuine university is yet to be functional.

Besides, cash up to Rs 17 lakhs, two laptops, seals, hologram and letter head of Techno Global University, provisional certificates, blank mark sheets of Chandra Mohan Jha University (CMJ) were also seized by the police.
