Poland's Defense Ministry says one of its soldiers has died of wounds sustained in action while on a NATO mission in Afghanistan's Ghazni province.

Warrant Officer Miroslaw Lucki was among three Polish soldiers injured yesterday while assisting Afghan forces in taking control of a large amount of explosives and weapons used for terrorist attacks.

They wounded were taken to the military hospital at the Polish base, but doctors could not save Lucki, who is the 42nd trooper that Poland lost in Afghanistan since starting the mission in 2007.

The ministry said on its website today that the injuries to the two other soldiers were not life-threatening.

Some members of the Afghan Provincial Response Company were also injured in the action.
