Portuguese org refutes charge of getting undue benefits

Press Trust of India Jaipur
A Portuguese biomedical research organisation Champalimaud Foundation (CF) which had entered into an agreement with Rajasthan government to set up a cancer treatment facility in the state today denied it was granted undue pecuniary benefits by the Vasundhara Raje dispensation.

Champalimaud Foundation today issued the clarification after opposition Congress linked the signing of MoU between Rajasthan government and the Portuguese biomedical research organisation in October 2014 with the controversies involving former IPL chief Lalit Modi.

The government had last month rejected the allegations as "baseless and unwanted".

Champalimaud Foundation, in a statement from Lisbon which was issued today by the Chief Minister's Office, has strongly and unequivocally refuted the allegations, saying "at no point, has an agreement been arrived at that involves financial or real estate transactions by the government of Rajasthan to the Champalimaud Foundation."

The Lisbon-based foundation is a non-profit and has been running one of the world's most advanced biomedical research facilities specialising in the field of Cancer since 2010.

Over the last few days, certain sections of the media in India have been carrying news of alleged wrong doing leading to undue pecuniary benefits granted by the state government of Rajasthan, to the Champalimaud Foundation, Portugal, the statement said.

The Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown is known the world over for state-of-the-art cancer diagnosis and minimally invasive treatment.
