In a major breakthrough, Arunachal Pradesh Police arrested the prime accused involved in the robbery of Arunachal Pradesh Rural Bank here and recovered three country-made pistols and 33 rounds of live ammunition, the police said today.

A police team led by SDPO Techi Hanyir, Itanagar police station OC Inspector T Bage, SI W Wangsa and a section of the 3rd IRBN personnel arrested Gichik Tachung, the prime accused from Songlo-3 village, near here during a raid on Tuesday night.

28-year-old Tachung hails from Lengdik village under Tali Circle of Kra-Daadi district, SP Mishra said.

Armed robbers on December 5, 2013 committed a robbery in the Ganga branch of the bank. While two robbers, Tapo Marde and Hiba Tajuk were arrested, the prime accuse was absconding since then.

The police however, continued the search for nearly two years and finally nabbed the culprit, he said.

"Tachung is a professional robber and reportedly arrived in the capital with a plan to commit robbery again," Mishra said.
