Prisoner beaten to death by fellow inmate in Kota jail

A 63-year-old prisoner in the Kota Central Jail was beaten to death by a fellow inmate after a dispute over the use of the bathroom, police said here on Thursday.

The victim-- Baldev Singh -- was undergoing imprisonment in a case of theft.

Jailer Yogesh Tyagi said Baldev Singh had a scuffle with fellow inmate Mohammad Javed (30) on Wednesday evening, during which he sustained injuries.

He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead, the jailer added. Police have lodged a case of murder against Javed.

The deceased, a resident of the Udhyog Nagar area of Kota city, was lodged in the jail on March 20 after he was sentenced to two-year imprisonment in a theft case.

 

The jailer said Mohhamad Javed, a resident of Baran, was convicted in an Arms Act case.
