A prisoner sustained severe injuries today after jumping from the roof of the district jail building under Sadar police station area in Bihar's Darbhanga town, a police officer said.
The 22-year-old prisoner Deepak Gupta sustained injuries on his spine and neck after jumping off from the roof of the jail building allegedly after he failed to get contraband substance to which he was addicted, the Superintendent of Police (SP), City, Harkishore Rai said.
The injured prisoner was taken to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for treatment where the attending doctors recommended him to be taken to the PMCH in the state capital in view of his serious condition, he said.

Gupta, a native of Gandhi Nagar locality in Darbhanga town was arrested on theft charges three days ago and sent to judicial remand by a local court, Rai said.
The injured inmate, however, has told the police that he was forced to take the extreme measure due to harassment by another inmate, a charge which was being verified, Rai added.
