Terming the Uttar Pradesh government's action against its ministers Ram Murti Verma and Kailash Chaurasia as "not adequate", senior Congress leader P L Punia today called for their resignation and arrest over embroilment in controversies.

"So far the government has not taken adequate action against Verma and Chaurasia. Merely ordering inquiries is not sufficient given the serious nature of the offences they have been accused of. They need to be removed from their posts, arrested and sent to the jail", Punia said.

While Verma has been accused of orchestrating the murder of a Shahjahanpur-based journalist Jagendra Singh and was named in the FIR filed by his family, Chaurasia has been accused of manhandling a senior transport department official posted in Mirzapur district.

Punia was speaking to reporters after returning from Ghoorpur in the district's trans-Yamuna region, where he had gone in his capacity as the Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes following the killing of two Dalit youths on Friday.
