Moderate to heavy rains lashed a few places in Haryana and Punjab causing mercury to dip by a few notches.
Chandigarh was lashed by heavy rains (24.2 mm) last evening, a MeT Department official said here.
In Haryana, heavy rains occurred in Yamunanagar (45 mm), Jagadhri (45 mm) and Naraingarh (29 mm) while Panchkula, Faridabad and Ambala also received showers.

In Punjab, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Balachaur, Nawanshahr, Patiala, Rajpura, Anandpur Sahib and Ropar, received light rains.
After the rains, the maximum temperature which had been hovering close to 42 degress mark at most places yesterday, witnessed a slight decrease today.

Meanwhile, maximum temperatures today dropped sharply after rains lashed the region.
Chandigarh recorded a maximum of 33.2 degrees Celsius, six notches below normal, the MeT Department said.
Like Chandigarh, Ambala in Haryana recorded an identical high, which was also six notches below normal.
Narnaul's maximum settled at 34 degrees Celsius. Hisar experienced a hot day at 41.5 degrees Celsius.
Patiala in Punjab registered a high of 33.6 degrees Celsius, seven notches below normal.
Ludhiana also recorded a drop in maximum temperature which settled at 35.4 degrees Celsius, five notches below normal. Amritsar registered a high of 39.5 degrees Celsius.
