A truck driver was burnt alive after his vehicle rammed into a tree and caught fire in Hamirpur district, police said on Sunday.

SHO Sumerpur Prakash Yadav said the accident took place at around 7.30 pm on Saturday when the sand-laden truck was on its way to Kanpur.

The driver lost control of the vehicle while trying to save a motorcyclist. The truck rammed into a tree and immediately caught fire, Yadav said.

Two cleaners of the truck managed to escape but the driver Vikas Dubey (24) got trapped and was charred to death, the SHO said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination and the truck has been seized, police said.
