"Out of the 818 complaints related with domestic violence, dowry death, harassment at workplace and other types of repression received between the period from November 2011 to February this year by the commission, 162 were disposed and 656 are under process," commission's chairperson Laad Kumari Jain said here.

Expressing dissatisfaction over police's handling of cases registered under non-bailable and non-compoundable section 498-A of IPC in dowry related cases, Jain said that awareness for the section should be created at mass level so that it is not misused.

She also highlighted that many women in the state have been experiencing domestic violence that is deeply rooted in traditions and customs.

She claimed that police and authorities also ignore domestic violence and instead of defending these victims, torture and harass them.

About a complaint lodged against a state minister Mahendrajeet Singh Malvia by his former wife Kamla in March, Jain said that hearing was conducted on April 9 and Malvia has shown positive response towards the compensation demand of his wife.
