Rape accused escapes from Police custody

A rape accused managed to escape from police custody after he was produced in a local court in Rajouri district yesterday, a police officer said.

Arif Jat, a resident of Dhunidhar area of Rajouri district who was accused in a kidnapping and rape case of 2011 was arrested along with three others on Tuesday.

"He managed to give police a slip after he was produced in a local court," the officer said.

He said that Jat was one of the four accused in a case of kidnapping and gang-raping a 17 year old girl in 2011.

"Police teams have been constituted and raids are being conducted to nab him," the officer said.
